Thorough, Useful and Enlightening

While the author may apologize for posting the book's description in the review section, he should make no apologies for the detailed, thorough and extremely well thought out book he has penned. As an astrologer, I have sought to learn the many mysteries that this art has to reveal, no matter how trivial or arcane they might prove to be. One subject that has always nagged at me was the Mansions of the Moon. Since seeing the subject appear in Vivian Robson's classic "Fixed Stars & Constellations in Astrology," I have been intrigued, but have found little information outside of sources within Vedic and Chinese astrology. Even then, it would have seemed that the Mansions of the Moon would forever be shrouded in mystery. Until now.
Warnock has done an amazing job at collecting sources on the subject, reasoning out interpretations as well as making a practical guide for using it in your magical or astrological practice. The integration of classic sources with our modern world view is often a difficult task to manage, particularly with sources dating back several centuries. Mind you, this is not the touchy feely new age drivel that seems to be in absolute abundance in astrology these days. It is drawn entirely from traditional sources and presented in such a manner that makes it easily accessible to those of us who don't have a large breadth of experience in traditional astrology or medieval philosophy.
Seriously, astrology is an art that encompasses many facets of life reconciling the hermetic principle of "As above, so below," in the context of the mundane, for the purpose of electing a time to act or answering a question, not merely an egotistical interpretation of oneself. It is nice to see another author who "gets it."
After having read the book briefly, I am inclined to agree with the review previously penned by Deb Holden (whose "Houses: Temples of the Sky" is a book that I have found to be second to none on the topic). The presentation is practical and his sources thoroughly documented. I anticipate I will read this book many times over and I recommend you do the same. This is about as close to being authoritative as one can get.

This book is like a diamond: precious, authentic and what a treasure! The Mansions of the Moon is the missing link of the Zodiac: undiscovered, hidden, and lost in the western Astrological word. The author, Christopher Warnock, has done an amazing job putting together and writing this book. The content illuminates the mansions to the western world, explaining all aspects (from the mansion's significance in a natal chart to the practical applications of creating a talisman for each). A must have!

OVERALL, AN EXCELLENT BOOK

This is an excellent book for the beginner -- which is to say someone with basic astrological knowledge but little substantive knowledge of lunar mansions or Western occult history. While much of the content in the book quite properly comes from two historical sources -- Picatrix and Agrippa -- Warnock adds pertinent information drawn from his own experience, as well as a simplified method for talismanic magick. Although Warnock occasionally takes a schoolmarmish tone -- which some may find a bit irritating -- this is an excellent resource book.

Good for beginners

Faced with a detailed design of a reinforced concrete bridge for the first time, I was floundering. I am a mining engineer by training, you see, and went into the civil engineering trade. But Hambly came to my rescue. The book presents basic concepts in the analysis of bridge decks in a less cryptic manner than most academic books, and upon reading and re-reading, one should find that many concepts required in bridge deck analysis are presented quite well here.

Highly Recommended Glenco Health book

I think highly of this Glenco Health book. It is covers a multitude of health issues in an easy to read and easy to understand format. I require student to write the question within the answer to help get them internalize the concepts presented as opposed to simply writing an answer that isn't linked to anything in their mind, so there is a lot of work for students; the assignments are short so students progress goes quickly and they don't seem to mind too much. In each chapter there are about 5 pages to read followed by 7 questions; after 3-5 chapters there is a unit assessment of 35 questions. Students comment that there is a lot of work, but it was easy and informative.

Good value, Unless you need this for a class not a great choice for teaching health

I bought this since my child's school does online books only and the server seems to go down frequently so for the low prices here I decided it was worth it to purchase an actual book. The book itself and quick shipping were great. This health book is perfect for our Utah school. It contains virtually no sex education. It has a short chapter on very basic, what I remember learning in elementary school ideas about reproduction. The rest of the book deals with basic social issues, mental health concepts and how to make healthy choices. I would not choose this book if I had a choice for health textbooks but it obviously is a popular book with school districts a conservative base of families.

The book all but ignores sexual health issues and has no medical-grade evaluation of contraceptive options needed to evaluate strengths as well as risks. Disappointed, but it will get the kids through 90%...

I think Rotella's "Golf Is Not A Game Of Perfect" is for any player who wants to maximize his ability to translate skill level to course performance. If you are always "in the zone," and your confidence is bullet-proof, so nothing shakes you over an approach, escape, put, or drive, then it would be a waste of time to read. For the rest of us, there is a fair amount of anecdote and filler (to flesh out) in a manual punctuated with frequent valuable, practical, applicable tips. I learned how to "highlight" on my Kindle just to underscore his pearls, only to realize most of them were summarized at the end of the book.

Interesting

After reading the advice given by Dr. Rotella, I thought I'd give it a try. So, yes, focusing on a target while addressing the ball and maintaining that focus really helps take your mind off of mechanics and allows the swing to happen. I found that if I focused on the mental target, I hit a decent shot . The hard part is trying to hold on to this for a full round of golf. the thought is always trying to escape and somehow return to the mechanical focus. it's definitely a sound mental approach.

Conspiracy connoisseurs tired of contemplating whether Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone will feast on this tale of the 19th-century doings of the Knights of the Golden Circle. According to treasure hunter Brewer (aided by Bloomberg News editor-at-large Getler), who attempts to unravel their secrets in hopes of finding millions of dollars of hidden gold, the KGC was a sinister group of influential Southerners intent on engineering the secession of Southern states. They supposedly conspired to split the 1860 Democratic convention so that a weak candidate would emerge, guaranteeing Lincoln's election and support for secession-a deep game indeed. Losing the Civil War sent them underground, where, the authors say, political theorist and KGC member Jesse James, whose death they faked, led them to amass a fortune primarily through the pedestrian crimes of bank and stagecoach robbery and, more creatively, by collecting a multimillion-dollar award from Mexican Emperor Maximilian as repayment for aiding Maximilian's tottering regime. They hid their treasure, preserving knowledge of its whereabouts through a series of devilishly complex symbols known only to initiates for the day the South would rise again. Brewer believes some of his relatives were "sentinels" charged with protecting the KGC's hidden treasure. As fanciful as the group's history sounds (and the authors admit it is heavily based on circumstantial evidence), Brewer is convincing that the code existed and that he deciphered some of it, and his treasure hunting meets with modest success. While growing up in the 1950s, Brewer learned at his grandpa's knee that rebels cached gold in the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas to finance round two of the Civil War. After a career in the navy, Brewer dedicated himself to pursuing the story, written up here by reporter Getler. This exceedingly recondite story involves Scottish Rite Freemasonry, codes, cabalistic carvings on trees, Jesse James, a furtive entity called Knights of the Golden Circle, and a helluva lot of speculation. Still, Brewer is convinced the Confederacy's hidden treasury is still out there waiting to be dug up; alas, he unwisely confided one location to a rogue who allegedly absconded with the multimillion-dollar rebel stash. Jesse James, Confederate gold, the Knights of the Golden Circle, Freemasons, Albert Pike, the Ku Klux Klan, mysterious maps, codes, and symbols, echoes of the Knights Templar: It would make a great case for Dan Brown's Robert Langdon character -- except Warren Getler and Bob Brewer got there first -- and in non-fiction!

Conspiracies abound

Is it true? Who knows. The real question is whether the book can keep my interest. At first it did a great job in laying out the story as the authors saw it. Unfortunately most of the last half of the book is spent trying to describe how he "located" the "treasure" spots. It also included maps which to my inexperienced eyes seem more of a stretch. I agree if there was a succession of Confederate treasure spots it would make sense that they all were laid out in similar patterns with markers. The question is whether you believe his explanation of markings. I have to admit it seems a bit of a stretch but who knows stranger things have happened I guess. The real problem is the book simply falls apart half way through whether true or not you no longer care.

An interesting read.

Is there really millions of dollars of Confederate treasure buried in strategically hidden spots across the Continental United States? Yes according to Bob Brewer, co-author of this book.

Shadow of the Sentinel follows Bob's quest to discover and uncover various hoardes of suposed Confederate treasure using his analytical skills, a few clues and a whole bunch of hearsay and supposition. Amazingly he seems to have 'cracked' the code and been on to something. However, we never really find out of he is as he's either stabbed in the back by his erstwhile partner(s) or is refusing to dig as he doesn't have the proper authorisation.
Bob Brewer is a smart fellow; he also seems to be a naive fellow, too. If you're confident that you've discovered buried treasure, be sure you really know somebody before you tell them.
The book gives a detailed history of the Knights of the Golden Circle whilst Bob's treasure hunt is interspersed with tales of the Knights Templar, Scottish Rite Freemasonry, The Civil War and beyond.
A book certainly worth reading even if the conclusion is inconclusive.
